With the join gate on, customers explicitly join and agree to your program terms before they earn or redeem anything. The agreement links straight to the terms in your shop policies, and the join step appears wherever customers meet the program: the account hub, the storefront widget, and checkout.

Orders placed before joining aren't lost. Points from earlier qualifying orders wait — the moment a customer joins, everything they've already earned is granted in one go. The gate shows them what's waiting, which turns a consent checkbox into a reason to say yes.
